Last Class
We had our last childbirth & care class last night, so now our official "graduates" -- we even got a little certificate. Guess that means we are ready for parenthood, or more likely as ready as we're going to be at this point.
Last night's class was fun as we got to do quite a bit of practicing with baby dolls -- swaddling, diaper changing, bathing, burping, comforting, temperature taking, and of course, using the squeegee bulb thing. Not quite the same as it will be with our little Maisie (who will probably not lay quite so still, be so quiet, or have such clean/non-smelly diapers), but was nice to go through some of the actions.
We also got to play a sort of game where we layed out our hopes / preferences (there were 13 categories to start with) for the birth and then you would eliminate so many at a time until you got down to the 4 most important to you. For example, our top preferences ended up being "healthy baby" (funny, that was in everyone's final pile), "partner present", "breathing / relaxation techniques" (that we would be able to use & find helpful), and "vaginal birth".
But though having preferences, keeping in mind that we will need to be flexible on that day as "healthy baby" is #1 preference over all others.
