Ryan Got His Transfer!
It was finally settled yesterday, Ryan is being transferred (his position at Parrish had been eliminated) to an Information Technology position at Omaha South High School, which is just a little over a mile from our home. Talk about a sweet commute, and Ryan is hoping to ride his bicycle there on nice days...just has to figure out the best route and way to do that -- trying to figure out how to do without getting super sweaty as it would basically be an almost all uphill route to the school from our house.
Ryan had been hoping to stay in an ESL position, but his boss did what we had feared and set it up where the only job left open for him was this vague position that she was wanting to create. Ryan didn't think the concept sounded very workable, plus it hadn't even been approved yet so decided to start looking into math positions instead. An old co-worker of his who is now in a position at South told him about a possible open math / IT position there, and told him to come up to the school on Wednesday and look around, talk to the principal, etc..
So away he went yesterday afternoon, and it turned out to be a solely IT teaching position (no math at all, but Ryan wasn't too sad about that...he always enjoyed teaching his programming classes at Benson more than the math ones) but was subject matter that he had either taught or done himself before, so they offered him the position. Yay! And there might also be an opportunity for him to be the assistant cross-country running coach, which would be a little extra money plus he would enjoy that interaction with the students...but that isn't a for sure thing yet.
From the beginning, this has definitely been a God thing...though, of course, didn't work out in the way or with the results that we were expecting -- but quite possibly even better than we had prayed for. I am not even sure why that surprises me anymore!
