Maisie Broke Her Leg
As most of you know, Maisie broke her leg this past weekend. Her doctor had predicted it when she was only 9 months old, and Ryan & I feared it given her propensity to climb on almost anything & often jumping off as well...but it ended up being kind of a very unexpected event which caused the break.
We were getting ready to take food to the table so Maisie, knowing it was almost meal-time, went running for the dining room table. On her way there, she ran upon the plastic Elmo puzzle board that she had pulled out a little bit earlier from her play-area. And then slip, twist, fall, my poor girl was on the floor w/ a broken right tibia. Of course this is all theory since we were still in the kitchen, but given her location & the puzzle board's location (the only other toy outside the playarea was her sesame street radio, which we think she landed on as it was playing a tune), that is likely what took place.
The next 5 hours after the fall was pretty crazy, but Maisie (& her parents) are doing much better now. The leg is, of course, still a little sore for her but should lessen significantly this week. She is finding ways to still be mobile, & determined in many ways to do some of the same activities that she did before the break (though I am trying to keep those to a minimal for these first 48hrs while the cast is still hardening)...but we're also doing a lot more movie-watching on the couch (as you can see from picture).
I am definitely looking forward to the cast coming off in 3-4 weeks, but in the meantime, will probably spoil her a little bit and enjoy her taking morning naps again (moving around in the cast is pretty tiring for her). And Annie is enjoying her big sister not moving faster than her.
